Jonathan Kay on the CMAJ Taser study

Nice article, but he's still falling for the 'better than a gun' theory. Oh don't get me wrong - it's a true theory (sometimes).

But this small truth is completely swamped out by the larger truth that ratio of present-day taser use to the historical and accepted rate of the police actually shooting people with a gun is roughly 100-to-1 (varies widely).

RCMP claims that they've 'saved' 4000 Canadians using the taser in recent years. Excuse me? Without the taser, they would have had to shoot 4000 people with their revolvers? Are you insane?
