Each time an RCMP officer threatens to use a stun gun, even when it's drawn but not fired, the officer is required to record the incident. Using access to information requests, the CBC/Radio-Canada and the Canadian Press obtained recorded incidents from 2002 to 2008, amounting to more than 5,000 reports. A searchable database was then created from these reports.
