Syracuse, NY - Oswego County sheriff deputy Jeff Kandt was, according to his complaint, permanently injured by being shot by a Taser M26 stun gun on May 29, 2007, a mandatory part of training to become an instructor in the weapon. He is suing Taser International claiming that they knew of similar disabling incidents, but failed to warn. He demands punitive damages, saying Taser's fraud and negligence were malicious. I really like this part of the complaint:
"32. Defendant deliberately and fraudulently understated and minimized the number of known incidents, claims and lawsuits involving their EMD weapons..." [LINK] (.pdf)
Well that sounds very much like all those "DI$MI$$ED with prepayment" cases.
Note - These allegations are yet to be proven in court. Or perhaps: yet to be dismissed with prejudice after a large settlement check changes hands.
