There have been a few modest settlements for instances of taser abuse. For example $40,000 (Utah) and $49,000 (Lubbock, TX). But I've felt that those settlements were on the low side. They are too cheap to have any long term impact on policy. But in Alaska the jury awarded $1.8 million, and in September 2007 the parties settled for $575,000. [LINK][LINK]
Political leaders may wish to contemplate the total cost of ownership when making their equipment and procurements decisions.
