Mission Statement - De-Spinning the Pro-Taser Propaganda

Yeah right, 'Excited Delirium' my ass...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The primary purpose of this blog is to provide an outlet for my observations and analysis about tasers, taser "associated" deaths, and the behaviour exhibited by the management, employees and minions of Taser International. In general, everything is linked back to external sources, often via previous posts on the same topic, so that readers can fact-check to their heart's content. This blog was started in late-2007 when Canadians were enraged by the taser death of Robert Dziekanski and four others in a short three month period. The cocky attitude exhibited by the Taser International spokespuppet, and his preposterous proposal that Mr. Dziekanski coincidentally died of "excited delirium" at the time of his taser-death, led me to choose the blog name I did and provides my motivation. I have zero financial ties to this issue.

Taser 'Quote of the Week' by George Hateley, Australian taser distributor

George Hateley, distibutor of tasers in Australia, "There have been about 2 million people who have been exposed to [a] taser....and no-one's been affected." [LINK]

"...no-one's been affected..."

"...no-one..."

Much more on Mr. Hateley... [LINK]

Outrageous False statement by Australian Taser distributor George Hateley

The Australian distributor of the device, George Hateley, says police in one Canadian province are following the advice. He says it is based on the findings of a single researcher who drilled into a pig's heart to test the Taser's effect on the animal. "That's going way beyond what you need to, and certainly pigs are different to humans," he said. "There have been about 2 million people who have been exposed to Taser - probably a million in training - and no-one's been affected." [LINK]

One could be forgiven for being tempted to call Mr. Hateley "a bald-faced liar", but I will try to resist that temptation. But his reported statement is outrageous. To claim that "...no-one's been affected..." is such an outrageous and bald-face false statement that there's only one possible conclusion...

Australians should take note of this approach by the distributor of tasers. If he is willing to make such outrageously false statements, then can you trust anything he says?

At least the new taser targeting guidelines have made the news Down Under.

Arse hit in arse by taser fired by arse

The South Australian Opposition Leader, Isobel Redmond, has been voluntarily hit with a Taser shot. ... Four people, including a doctor[!!!], were present at Liberal Party headquarters in Adelaide when she was hit on Monday. ...George Hateley, who fired the full-powered shot, says Ms. Redmond did not even fall down, "...which happens sometimes..." ...Mr. Hateley said he fired the Taser into her "...lower back and back side, the buttock..." [LINK]

George Hateley is the Australian distributor for tasers. He has been found making outrageously false statements. [LINK]

Pro-taser twit Isobel Redmond has been mentioned before. [LINK] She had a complete medical, brought the doctor along, and has now been tasered in the arse, all to prove that she has ...complete confidence in the safety of tasers...'

I wonder if she had to sign a waiver that included a mention of the risk of death?

With all the CYA (cover your ass) going on (medical check up, doctor in attendance, probably a legal waiver), it's amazing she was still hit there.

Interesting blog Hit of the Day from Australia

Melbourne, Victoria arrived from google.com.au on "www.Excited-Delirium.com: Taser 'Quote of the Week' by George Hateley, Australian taser distributor" by searching for George Hateley + avoid taser shot at chest. 2 hours ago

Looks like someone [LOL] is researching who said what, and when. This is relation to the recent incident where a young man was tasered in the chest and 'died'.

Ole George has occasionally gone off-message as compared to the myth-du-jour from The Church of Taser. [LINK]

Exactly what "...lingers in the body..." ?

Here is another crystal-clear example of the sort of subtle word-smithing that is commonly used by Taser and its cohorts. This example is from Australia.

Taser Inc USA is the only supplier of Tasers in Australasia. The company's local director, George Hateley, said '...it is impossible for the electrical impulses generated by a taser to linger in the body.' [LINK]

This was in response to: The New South Wales ombudsman is calling on the State Government to halt a further rollout of tasers to NSW Police, saying there has not been enough evaluation of their effectiveness and risks. [LINK]

I agree about the electrical impulses, because it is a very stupid straw man argument (wiki).

Nobody (that knows anything) is claiming that the taser's electrical impulses themselves "linger" in the victim's body for hours or days. But it seems clear that perhaps the effects of the taser do sometimes "linger" beyond the moment of deployment.

This blog previously reported on the case of two ham radio operators that were electrocuted when their tower contacted a powerline. One died almost instantly; the other died much later. And this temporal divergence happened from the exact same electrocution incident at the exact same instant. [LINK]

Even the National Institute of Justice has acknowledged that there remain many unknowns with regard to the so-called 'science' (sic) of tasers. [Indirect links via HERE]

Hateley's statement in defence of tasers is therefore obviously completely idiotic no matter how you look at it.

PS: For those that haven't been paying attention, the word "linger" used in this context is practically a trademark of Taser. Other Taser spokespuppets have read from the same song sheet previously.

Handbag fight within The Church of Taser ?

Compare and contrast:

ABC (Australia) The World Today - Friday, 19 June 2009: Taser International says regardless of whether its stun gun was used three times - as originally reported by police - or 28 times as later came to light, it would not have killed North Queenslander Antonio Galeano. [LINK] [LINK]

But Australia’s Taser distributor, George Hateley, told the Australian he has warned police authorities not to shoot Tasers more than once. Hately was personally involved in training Australian police in the use of the weapon. [LINK]

Welcome to the muddled, inconsistent, make-it-up-as-they-go-along world of taser 'safety'.

In case you're wondering who is right, see [LINK].

I'll bet that the phones lines from Scottsdale, AZ to Mr. George 'Multiple-Taser-Hits-Are-Dangerous' Hateley in Australia are carrying some heated conversations.

"200 reports"

"It's not really a scientific and medical view because if it was (Mr Braidwood) would have taken into account the 200 reports that say they're safe," said George Hateley from Breon Enterprises, which supplies Tasers to the QPS. [LINK]

Squawk squawk squawk.

'We have 200 studies that prove that there is no number between six and eight. How can you possibly respond to such an overwhelming onslaught of expensive studies that prove there's no number between six and eight?'

Seven.

Taser now admits multiple hits dangerous?

Lots of news in one taser news report from down-under. [LINK]

The rollout of Tasers to Queensland police has been frozen as it emerged officers last week repeatedly shot a man, who later died, against the warnings and training by the stun gun's American manufacturers that multiple use on a person is dangerous.

Queensland Taser Moratorium, eh? Yee haw.

...The new review and freeze comes as George Hateley, the exclusive distributor of Tasers in Australia, told The Australian that police have been warned against shooting a person more than once with the weapon.

Interesting...

...In Queensland, Mr Roberts and Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said they could not reveal what had prompted the review and freeze because it was evidence before the coroner.

...On Saturday, The Weekend Australian revealed Taser International was last year held partially responsible for the death of a man in Texas, shot repeatedly with the stun gun, after a civil jury found police "didn't know repeated exposures could kill someone".

Did I miss that news? Texas vs. California?

I hadn't seen anywhere before that Taser International now admits that multiple taser hits can be dangerous. I'm surprised by this reported news, as it is essentially an admission of a risk that Taser International and their minions previously denied.

If this is true, then it is lawsuit heaven. Anyone in North America that lost a family member to multiple taser hits could use this reported change to the training as evidence in their lawsuits.

More later...
