Mission Statement - De-Spinning the Pro-Taser Propaganda

Yeah right, 'Excited Delirium' my ass...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The primary purpose of this blog is to provide an outlet for my observations and analysis about tasers, taser "associated" deaths, and the behaviour exhibited by the management, employees and minions of Taser International. In general, everything is linked back to external sources, often via previous posts on the same topic, so that readers can fact-check to their heart's content. This blog was started in late-2007 when Canadians were enraged by the taser death of Robert Dziekanski and four others in a short three month period. The cocky attitude exhibited by the Taser International spokespuppet, and his preposterous proposal that Mr. Dziekanski coincidentally died of "excited delirium" at the time of his taser-death, led me to choose the blog name I did and provides my motivation. I have zero financial ties to this issue.

Riverside CA, $2.4M on stun guns, gun fire deaths up

The Press-Enterprise (29 June 2008) - Fatal shootings involving Riverside County deputies have increased this year despite $2.4 million spent by the county on stun guns. ... The tasers became widely used in March, when 900 deputies started training to become certified. Yet the number of people killed in incidents involving deputies this year already is at six, exceeding the four killed in all of 2007. ... [LINK]

There is a comment on the above news story.

NorthPatrol (presumably a police officer) wrote: I have used a TASER ecw for about 3 years. There have been numerous incidents where I was able to deploy TASER in lieu of escalating to deadly force. Prior to TASERS, my only option to a subject armed with a knife or bat was to use deadly force.

What the...? This officer is claiming that in three years he has saved "numerous" lives? How many people has he been forced to shoot dead before the taser was provided to him? If not for the taser, after a 25-year career in law enforcement (for example), he would have shot dead dozens and dozens?

This sort of outlandish claim collapses under its own weight.
